Antique stones We are committed to sourcing the very best materials available. This has led us naturally towards the reclaiming and re-laying of rare and beautiful period floors. Each floor is sourced individually and lovingly restored. The original quarries may have closed many years ago and the stone may no longer be produced. When reclaimed these stones can vary in thickness. They are carefully re-cut to given them a standard depth. This exposes a second face on the remaining stone. This is then mixed with carefully sourced newly quarried stone from the region and a process is applied to hand distress the new face of the material, thereby enhancing the antique appearance. The nature of this rare material dictates that this stone is only available in limited quantities, but reasonably large areas can be acquired with sufficient notice. No modern floor can reproduce the wear of time which gives each antique floor a beauty all of its own. |
